How did you get into writing?

Fanfiction. It is an amazing creative outlet.

Where do you get your ideas?

Not a clue. They just show up! A lot of the things that I write have roots in Filipino history and folklore. My works are filled with food I enjoy, hard-to-like protagonists, and the imprint of places and events that have stuck with me for better or for worse.

Do you have any favorite books?

Yes, and listing them all would result in whole essays. The immortal ones are Redwall, The Vampire Chronicles, Animorphs, and The Bas-Lag Trilogy. They kept me company while I was a stroppy teenager shunting back and forth between Vancouver and Manila.

Are all of your books part of the same series?

Although they exist in a shared universe, I do my best to ensure that each book remains self-contained. The Metals Trilogy—Brimstone, Witch Gold, and Aether (forthcoming)—are the only three that must be read in order.

Do you distribute ARCs?

At the moment, no.

Are any of your novels available as audiobooks?

Hopefully, in the not-so-distant future.

Are you available for beta reads?

Sorry. I would love to be more involved with other writers and their projects, but my plate is full! The last two years have been a lot, and wrapping up my current trilogy is a struggle and a half.

What are some of your hobbies?

I am a super boring human being who jogs regularly and treats her kitchen like a laboratory. My husband and I hike, travel, and are part-time champions at philosophical discussions involving the latest Marvel movies and the logistics of zombie-vampire wars.
